ZAPAD turns Rabbit R1 into a compact control surface for your computer. It follows the app you are using and gives you quick access to useful commands, custom shortcuts, toggles, sliders, and knobs.
ZAPAD requires both the Rabbit R1 Creation and the desktop connector. Install the ZAPAD Creation on your R1 first, then install the connector on your computer.
ZAPAD Connector is Developer ID signed and notarized for direct macOS distribution.
The Windows connector is planned for a future release. When available, the installer will appear on the same ZAPAD Releases page as a Windows Setup EXE.
Do not download unofficial Windows builds from other repositories or file-sharing sites.
Pairing connects your R1 to your desktop connector. You only need to pair again if you disconnect the device or choose Pair New Desktop.
Launch the connector on your Mac and make sure it shows as running.
The connector generates a temporary six-digit pairing code.
On an unpaired device, ZAPAD shows Connect to Desktop.
Enter the six digits and choose Pair. Pairing codes are temporary and single-use.
When connected, ZAPAD automatically shows the keypad associated with the application currently active on your computer.
ZAPAD follows the foreground application on your desktop. Switch from Chrome to Figma, for example, and the R1 changes to the corresponding keypad automatically.
Each application can use up to three 3×3 keypad pages. Use the R1 side button while on a keypad to move between pages.
Tap a key to immediately run its assigned shortcut or action. Pressed keys show a dedicated pressed state on the R1.
Tap a continuous control to select it, then use touch or the R1 scroll wheel to adjust it. It stays selected until you deliberately select another continuous control.
Custom keypad slots can record keyboard shortcuts from your desktop. ZAPAD stores the shortcut as a portable command so the same concept can map across platforms.
Create a keypad for the current application so it appears automatically with that app, or create a standalone keypad that you open manually.
Open ZAPAD Settings on the R1 and choose Modify Current Key Pad. Select any slot to assign, replace, or unassign an action. Choose Apply when finished.
Use Search Applications to browse supported apps. Recent applications appear first, followed by the full catalog. Select an application to configure its keypad.
Choose an empty slot, select Record Custom Shortcut, then press the desired keyboard combination on your computer. Give the new key a short label and save it.
Open the action list for an assigned control and choose Free up keypad slot. This removes the control from that slot without changing the underlying app catalog.
macOS releases use Sparkle for in-app updates.
Open the ZAPAD Connector menu and choose Check for Updates…. You can also enable automatic update checks in the connector settings.
New users can always download the latest installer from the public Releases page.
View latest release →Make sure ZAPAD Connector is running on your computer and your computer has an internet connection. If necessary, quit and reopen the connector.
On macOS, confirm ZAPAD Connector is enabled under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. Quit and reopen the connector after granting access.
Make sure you are running the installed copy from Applications, not a copy inside the DMG or a development build folder. If you replace development builds frequently, macOS may retain an older permission record.
Generate a new code in ZAPAD Connector and enter it promptly. Codes are temporary and can only be redeemed once.
Bring the desired desktop app to the foreground. The connector reports the active application and the R1 should switch automatically. If it does not, reopen the connector.
On the R1, open Settings and choose Pair New Desktop, then generate a fresh pairing code from the connector on the new computer.
